Since 2025 we’ve been sharing a Photo of the Week to highlight the local community. It started in our weekly email and then we added it to our homepage. It’s mostly been our photos, but we’d love to share the space and highlight other photographers.
Note: Photos submitted will be shared in our weekly email, posted to our site, and potentially posted to social media. We will always credit the photographer.
What we are looking for: Photos capturing the community. Places, events, nature, etc. It helps if it’s a recognizable location (e.g., local park, school playground, busy street, etc.) or timely scene (e.g., bees on flowers, snow-covered road, local event, etc.), but that’s not always required. Since this feature is weekly, it helps if it’s timely in some way—fitting the season or related to current news. It should be clear why that photo is the photo of the week (e.g., school just started so a picture of a school, hockey rink in winter, construction while that project is active, etc.).
Submission Requirements
- Location: Photos must be taken within West St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights, Lilydale, Mendota, Mendota Heights, South St. Paul, Sunfish Lake, or the West Side.
- Size: Send high quality images—at the very least 1800 pixels on the largest side.
- Orientation: Horizontal is preferred but not required.
- People: If people are the subject of the photo, you need to have their permission. For crowd shots in a public space, that is not required.
- Description: Include a basic description—what the photo is showing, where it was taken, what’s happening, etc. The description doesn’t need to be super detailed (e.g., “Car show at Inver Grove Heights Days” is fine), but don’t leave us wondering.
