West St. Paul City Council overrode the mayor’s first veto, approved a liquor license and improvements to outdoor seating at El Cubano, and tweaked the Open Council Work Session format to be more productive.
West St. Paul’s City Council will consider a veto override, look to further tweak the Open Council Work Session (OCWS) meetings, and consider an expansion of the Smith/Dodd Overlay.
West St. Paul Mayor Dave Napier vetoed a City Council push to expand the Planning Commission and require equal ward representation.
For the first time in more than a year the West St. Paul City Council chambers returned to normal with Council members and staff at the table and room for a full audience. It was also a return to business as usual with the agenda comprised of mostly routine items.
This week’s West St. Paul City Council meeting included the long-awaited conclusion to the mural debate, a pro-union resolution that will likely draw a veto, a heated moment during citizen comments, and goodbyes to two well-respected city staff members.
