This hyper-local news site published 194 stories last year. We broke the news of Granny Donuts closing, offered hourly updates during the protests and riots, and had in-depth coverage of the City Council elections. We cover new businesses, answer community questions, share local history, and more.
Who’s Behind This Thing?
Hi, I’m Kevin D. Hendricks. I’m a freelance writer and editor by trade and I’ve lived in West St. Paul since 2007. After writing about West St. Paul for a few years on my personal blog, I launched West St. Paul Reader in 2019. I wanted to help people know what’s going on here in West St. Paul.
How Does It Work?
We’re powered by the community. We launched with a Kickstarter project and today there are more than 60 ongoing supporting members through Patreon. They give a few bucks a month (or annually) to help keep you informed. Some pretty great neighbors we’ve got there.
We also have a handful of advertisers and a trickle of one-time donations. Every bit helps.
How Can I Help?
The most helpful thing you can do is become an ongoing supporter through Patreon. Knowing we have steady support means we can plan for the future, including budgeting for additional coverage, hiring other writers, and even commissioning local artists.
Membership starts at just $3 per month. You can also pay annually and save 5%.
Members get special bonuses including exclusive content, a thank you post card featuring local artwork, and the occasional livestream.
Thanks.
