Hawaii Poke Bowl is moving into the former Lucky China space at 1375 S. Robert Street in West St. Paul. No word on when they’ll open. Looks like they’re now open. Keep in mind, it’s drive-thru pick up only. That means you have to order online, there’s no ordering in the drive thru line.
Traditionally, poke (pronounced poh-KAY) bowls include white rice topped with raw fish that’s marinated in sesame oil, soy sauce, green onions, and other spices. But the Hawaii Poke Bowl version has more variety, including various protein options (from various raw fish to cooked meats including chicken, shrimp, crab, octopus, and eel, as well as tofu), and choices of fruits and vegetables, sauces, and crunchy toppings. They also serve miso soup and seaweed salad.
Hawaii Poke Bowl is based in Minnesota with locations in Apple Valley, Eagan, and Richfield, as well as a new location opening soon in Uptown.
Lucky China closed at the end of June when the owners retired after a long run in West St. Paul.
Aug. 30, 2021 Update: No In-Person Dining
The West St. Paul location of Hawaii Poke Bowl will be the “cloud kitchen” location with to-go pickup only. There will be no in-person dining.
Nov. 11, 2021 Update: Public Hearing
Hawaii Poke Bowl will come before the Planning Commission on Tuesday, November 16 for a public hearing on their proposed pick-up window. This location will have no in-person dining and won’t even have a menu board to take traditional drive thru orders—it will all be online orders for pick-up at their drive thru window.
