Meet a Member: Joan Gunderson-Palmer

We’re saying hello to some of our neighbors during our member drive, meeting folks who support West St. Paul Reader. Today we’re meeting Joan Gunderson-Palmer, a nonprofit program manager who has lived in West St. Paul for 14 years. She’s been a member of West St. Paul Reader since November 2021.

What do you love about West St. Paul?

Our parks, schools, and great neighbors.

Where is your favorite place in West St. Paul?

2026 West St. Paul Rider community bike ride on June 7, 2026.

Dodge Nature Center is great—we love walking the trails.

What’s your go-to West St. Paul eatery?

FoodSmith. During the pandemic we got takeout from there when we wanted to celebrate and now we love visiting in person. Good food and good waitstaff!

What is West St. Paul’s best kept secret?

Thompson Park.

Why did you move to West St. Paul?

We wanted to live near downtown St. Paul and really liked the neighborhoods in West St. Paul.

The St. Paul Saints brought their infectious brand of baseball entertainment to Harmon Park last night with games, Mudonna the mascot, and more with 150 kids from West St. Paul Baseball.
