With temperatures plunging, there are plenty of outdoor opportunities in West St. Paul over the next few weeks.
Moreland’s Art Sled Rally – January 28
- Where: Two Rivers High School. Park in the Aquatics Center parking lot.
- When: Saturday, January 28 from 10 a.m. to 12p.m.
- What: Moreland students will show off their art sleds and go down the hill. A panel of judges will vote for the top three most creative sleds and award the winners. Then the community is invited to sled. There will also be an award for the best community sled.
- Bonus: Moreland students have already created a monarch sled for Principal Mark Quinn who is retiring at the end of the school year. He can “slide into retirement” with this sled:

Kidarod – January 29
- Where: Thompson Park
- When: Sunday, January 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- What: They’re expecting 500 people for the 9th annual winter activity challenge for kids and families similar to the famous Iditarod dog-sled race.

SG3 Hockey Tournament – February 11
- Where: Harmon Park
- When: Saturday, February 11 starting at 11 a.m.
- What: An outdoor hockey tournament to raise scholarship money in honor of Sam Gottfredsen. Learn more about last year’s event.

Winter Fun Fest – February 18
- Where: Dodge Nature Center
- When: Saturday, February 18 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- What: A free community event with arctic activities including sleigh rides, snowshoeing, boot hockey, ice golf on the frozen pond, otter sliding, kicksledding, and more. If the weather cooperates, there may be hot air balloon rides.

St. Paul Winter Carnival
You can also head north to the St. Paul Winter Carnival, which runs January 26 through February 5. Be sure to stop at West St. Paul Antiques for the Winter Carnival Museum.
