West St. Paul has experienced an incredible amount of road construction this summer. While it’s certainly a hassle, City Council had two good reminders for West St. Paul residents.

1. Benefit of Finished Infrastructure Work

Council Member Lisa Eng-Sarne reminded the community that while all this construction is an inconvenience, the benefit of having it completed will far outweigh the short-term inconvenience. And some of those benefits will be hard to see, like updated pipes and sewers, where having the work done is far better than the alternative.

“There’s been a massive amount of public works activities. Occasionally I say a reminder that this is not a tragedy but an inconvenience. The benefits, when these projects are done, far outweigh the short inconvenient time you’re experiencing this summer. These are projects we’ve waited years and years and years to get on the list for, we’re thankful they’re here and when they’re done they’re going to be incredible.”

2. Support Impacted Businesses

Mayor Dave Napier also encourage residents to support businesses hurting from the closures, specifically citing the Annapolis reconstruction project.

Pace Automotive: Local, family owned auto repair. Personal, honest service.

“The project on Annapolis is—just like a major reconstruction on any street—it’s a huge undertaking. We’re fortunate to have some really successful businesses on Annapolis [but they] are suffering.”

Some of those impacted businesses include El Cubano, Gallagher’s, Rocco’s Pizza, and Tapper’s Pub.
