Member Drive: Elections

We’re in the midst of our member drive trying to get 40 new members so we can add coverage of ISD 197 school board meetings.

Why support our member drive? Help us continue to cover local elections.

Why it matters: “A well-informed electorate is a prerequisite to democracy,” is the common paraphrase of Thomas Jefferson. Unfortunately, local elections are barely covered, leaving voters in the dark. That’s bad for democracy. Your support is vital to our continued local election coverage.

Member Drive: Support Neighborhood News - 7 elections, 6 voter's guides, 63 candidates, 67 candidate questions.

What we cover: We cover local races impacting West St. Paul, including City Council, school board, Dakota County positions, state legislators, and more. We ask candidates hard questions, we share candidate forums, we link to every Q&A we can find, we create printable voter’s guides, and we cover the scandals. Our election coverage starts with who’s running and ends with campaign finance reports. We do everything possible to help voters make informed decisions in local elections.

Since 2019, we’ve covered 7 elections, created 6 voter’s guides, and asked 63 candidates 67 different questions.

People rely on our election coverage. We are empowering local voters. Here’s a look at our stats on election night:

Site stats showing 3,549 views on November 7, 2023, about a 10-fold increase from a normal day.

In just two days—election day and the day before—we had almost 5,500 views. For comparison’s sake, we had over 21,000 visits in all of October.

If you value that kind of local election coverage, join now and support us.
