We’re saying hello to some of our neighbors, meeting folks who support West St. Paul Reader. Today we’re meeting Alan Ruvelson. He’s retired from a law practice and military service. He’s lived in West St. Paul since 1995 and became a member of West St. Paul Reader in November 2022.
West St. Paul Love
What do you love about West St. Paul?
Nice neighbors, lovely setting, convenient location, great schools and public library (Wentworth Library), responsible city and county governance, West St. Paul Reader, and West St. Paul-Mendota Heights Rotary Club.
What’s your favorite place in West St. Paul? Why?
Garlough Park (where we live), near Dodge Nature Center, Marthaler Park, and River to River Trail.
What’s your go-to West St. Paul eatery?
Why did you move to West St. Paul?
Elbow room. We liked St. Paul and where we lived, but wanted more yard and we fell in love with the park setting and “small town” feel of this place.
Being a West St. Paul Reader Member
How did you hear about West St. Paul Reader?
I noticed it on the Internet. After visiting the website, Kevin came to Rotary. The Reader fits in well with the Twin Cities dailies and The St. Paul Voice. It’s best for current West St. Paul news and focus.
I did the 2023 West St. Paul Rider, which was well-staged and led me to routes that were new to me. Residents of Color Collective (ROCC) sponsored one of the rest stops. That was another worthwhile discovery. (Alan is pictured above with ROCC founder Kimetha Johnson.)
What’s your favorite West St. Paul Reader story?
I read the Council proceedings, the roadway plans and project status reports, and enjoy the historic pieces.
