May 22, 2024 Update: Leticia Maria Vasquez died Sunday from head trauma and other injuries, according to the Pioneer Press. Vasquez had the right of way when she was struck by a motorist making a left-hand turn from westbound Wentworth on a flashing yellow arrow, according to the preliminary investigation. So far there’s no indication that speeding, reckless driving, or the use of alcohol, drugs, or a cellphone contributed to the accident. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and was described by police as “very distraught, to say the least.”
Original story: A woman was critically injured this morning after being struck by a pickup truck in a West St. Paul intersection. Police blocked the intersection for more than two hours while paramedics attended to the injured woman and police investigated.
- Paramedics transported the 36-year-old Brooklyn Park woman to Regions Hospital with what police described as “severe, life-threatening injuries.” Her condition is currently “very critical.”
- The driver is a 23-year-old man from Forest Lake. He is not injured and is cooperating with investigators. Police said alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor.
- The accident happened at the intersection of Robert Street and Wentworth Avenue.
Police are still conducting their investigation.
