West St. Paul Love

What do you love about West St. Paul?

The large number of parks, the proximity to other areas of the Twin Cities, the interesting history and the people in my current neighborhood as well as the people in the West St. Paul neighborhood I grew up in. Daily life is not exciting in West St. Paul but it is surely not boring!

What’s your favorite place in West St. Paul? Why?

Pace Automotive: Local, family owned auto repair. Personal, honest service.

Mud Lake Park and Garlough Park. I spent a lot of time at Mud Lake Park as a kid and I spend a lot of time at Garlough Park as an adult. Both parks offer a natural escape while still being close to our suburban homes and neighborhoods. I love seeing people from all over the Twin Cities enjoying the disc golf course at Garlough Park.

What’s your go-to West St. Paul eatery?

McDonald’s and 5-8 Grill. McDonald’s because sometimes on the weekends, I get to see the older people, as they drink their coffee, that I knew growing up in WSP. At times it feels like a community gathering place, assuming you go inside to order and eat. 5-8 Grill because of Friday night trivia and the great people that have worked there over the years.

What is West St. Paul’s best kept secret?

The hidden secluded areas of the parks.

What do you wish people knew about West St. Paul?

The significant farming history of our city.

Why did you move to West St. Paul?

I was born here. I don’t move because I love the land and people of our city.

I love the idea of local reporting and propagating the historical stories of our city.

What do you like most about being a member and supporting West St. Paul Reader?

Being able to say hi to Kevin when I see him out and about in our city.

What’s your favorite West St. Paul Reader story?

The 1988: Students Walk Out at Henry Sibley story. I was a student there at the time thinking the walk-out was a crock of you know what.
