On the last day of school, Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School celebrated the unveiling of a new mural stretching across the entire backside of the building.
“The PTA imagined something marvelous in this space. They wondered—is it possible?” said Moreland Principal Rob Sahli. “This mural is evidence of what is possible when a community comes together.”
Led by artist Greta McLain and her team from Good Space Murals, the project included input from students and the wider community and took three years of kindness fundraisers. Students and the community helped paint the mural during classes and a community painting party.
“It Is Possible” Celebration
The celebration event included remarks from Sahli, PTA Vice President Lindsay Bjerke thanking the many people who made the mural possible, student songs, a recognition of the artists, and more. A number of local officials attended, including Superintendent Peter Olson-Skog, School Board Members Byron Schwab and Jon Vaupel, and City Council Members Wendy Berry and Lisa Eng-Sarne.
In a final moment to celebrate the mural, freeze pops were handed out to all the students and McLain led the students in holding up their treats: “A toast to what we can make together!”
