Moreland Students Lead Pledge at DNC

A group of third and fourth grade students from Moreland Arts and Heath Sciences Magnet School in West St. Paul led the Pledge of Allegiance during the third night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

The group of 11 students and Principal Rob Sahli said the pledge in a pre-recorded video filmed last week in a Moreland classroom.

Pace Automotive: Local, family owned auto repair. Personal, honest service.

“This was a valuable opportunity for the students to be civically engaged,” said Sahli.

  • How: A colleague from Sahli’s former school who is connected to Walz approached Sahli about the opportunity.
  • Quick: From initial contact to filming the video, it happened in less than 24 hours.
  • Who: With students on summer break, Sahli had to quickly call families and gather students who were available for the last-minute, chaotic project.
  • Surprise: They were told it might air on Wednesday but weren’t given a specific schedule, so there wasn’t an opportunity to notify the wider Moreland community ahead of time.
