West St. Paul City Council will interview 23 applicants for city committees, hold alcohol and tobacco compliance hearings, and consider extending an occupancy exemption for Net Ministries.
Applicant Interviews
During the Open Council Work Session (OCWS), Council will interview 23 applicants for 13 open seats on city committees and commissions (there are three more seats available for the Charter Commission, but Council doesn’t do the interviewing). Of the open seats, six have incumbents who are reapplying and will be considered for reappointment, meaning at least seven new applicants will be appointed.
- The mayor will appoint Planning Commission members for Council confirmation and Council will appoint Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and Environmental Committee members at the February 24 meeting.
- Charter Commission applicants will be interviewed and appointed by the Charter Commission on February 20.
Alcohol and Tobacco Compliance Hearings
Council will hold their annual compliance hearings for alcohol and tobacco violations.
- Smith Liquors, Garibaldi Mexican Restaurant, and BLVD Tavern all failed the alcohol check and face a $300 fine and potential gross misdemeanor charges for the employee responsible.
- MGM Wine and Spirits failed the tobacco check and faces a $600 fine for a second violation and a $50 fine for the employee responsible.
Other Items on the Agenda
- Occupancy exemption: Two years ago, Council extended an occupancy exemption for Net Ministries. The exemption has expired and they will consider whether or not to renew it.
