August 4, 2025 ISD 197 School Board meeting

ISD 197 School Board Recap: Aug. 4, 2025

Thanks to The North 40 Tavern for their support. A north woods tavern somewhere in the middle of a big city. They regularly rotate tap beers, so stop in to see what’s currently flowing.

After a short summer break, the ISD 197 School Board returned for a quick meeting to lease buses, share the superintendent evaluation, and say farewell to a retiring staff member.

  • Buses: The school board approved the lease of 16 mini buses to replace the existing fleet. The nearly $1.9 million lease will replace aging vehicles and cut down on maintenance costs.
  • Superintendent evaluation: The board evaluated Superintendent Peter Olson-Skog in June and discussed the results in a closed session. The board shared the results, rating Olson-Skog distinguished—the highest possible rating—in all five areas. “It all stems from being a part of  a great team,” Olson-Skog said. “When you are in a district filled with people like that, it makes it a joy to be the superintendent.”
  • Policies: The board approved a series of minor policy updates that bring district policies in line with new changes in state law.
  • Retirement: It was the last meeting for Mary Amidon, who has served as the executive assistant to the superintendent and school board for more than 10 years. “We wouldn’t be the place we are without Mary,” said Olson-Skog. At the end of the meeting, each of the school board members expressed their appreciation for Mary’s service and kindness. Britini Osmonson, who previously worked at Friendly Hills, is taking over the role.
