West Side’s Sebastian Ellefson Running for State House

Thanks to The North 40 Tavern for their support. A north woods tavern somewhere in the middle of a big city. They regularly rotate tap beers, so stop in to see what’s currently flowing.

West Side attorney Sebastian Ellefson launched a campaign for state house in district 65B, representing the northern half of West St. Paul.

Where: District 65B includes the northern half of West St. Paul, the West Side, downtown, West 7th, and more. The district leans heavily to the DFL—María Isa Pérez-Vega won the 2024 election with more than 76% of the vote.

Pace Automotive: Local, family owned auto repair. Personal, honest service.

Context: It’s an open seat this year since incumbent Pérez-Vega is running for Ramsey County Commissioner.

The Candidate

DFL candidate Sebastian Ellefson is the first candidate to announce a run:

  • Why: “As a legal aid attorney, I fight every day for the rights of working-class people. But I don’t want to fight for justice only on a case-by-case basis in a system stacked against ordinary people. I want to make systematic changes that help all Minnesotans.”
  • Day job: Legal aid attorney working for the Volunteer Lawyers Network.
  • Experience: Board member of the West Side Community Organization and Cherokee Park United Church, as well as cofounder of Ballot Ready, an organization that creates free, nonpartisan voter guides.
  • More: Learn more at Ellefson’s website.

What’s Next

We’ll see if any other candidates announce campaigns.

The party endorsement process will happen this spring, with the filing period closing on June 2. A primary, if necessary, will be Aug. 11, 2026.
