Neighborhood vigils sprung up this evening in response to another resident killed by federal agents in Minneapolis, including about 100 people at Smith and Annapolis in West St. Paul. Online posts encouraged peaceful candlelight vigils at neighborhood corners.
Tara Wright, the owner of Amore Coffee, invited the community and opened the coffee shop after hours for a peaceful vigil. A large crowd gathered in the sub-zero weather with candles and signs and quietly sang on the street corner for more than half an hour while passing cars honked in support.
