Where: 374 Annapolis Street West, replacing Cherokee Dental that recently moved within West St. Paul and changed names to Beyond Smiles DentaSpa.

Owners: Co-owners Aimee Weber and Sue Doyscher originally came up with the idea to open Poppy and Wonderments at a cabin five years ago during the pandemic while paddle boarding. They both wanted a change in their career and to pursue an artistic avenue. Finally, they set on the idea of creating a local studio where they could teach art, create art, and have art featured all day.

  • Weber began as a clinical research manager at Medtronic; however, when she was laid off in the summer of 2020, during the pandemic, she decided she did not want another position in the corporate world. She started her own floral design business, Aimee Floral Design, where her work is featured at Town and Country Club, Amore Coffee, Pool and Yacht Club, and more.
  • Doyscher began in the restaurant industry. But when she decided to pursue her artistic passions, she co-founded Poppy and Wonderment with her childhood friend, Weber. Doyscher focuses on art inspired by natural elements, like her work with moss, and is responsible for managing artists and art-based classes.

“It was during COVID times, and it gave us a chance to slow down and really start tapping into who we are again,” said Weber. “And we said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could have a business where we are in charge of our lives and doing what we want to do.’”

Name meaning: The name is intended to be a combination of both Weber’s and Doyscher’s personalities.

  • “Poppy is my favorite flower, and it’s just so vibrant, and it invokes a sense of life and joy,” Weber said.
  • “Wonderments” represents Doyscher’s art and is a unique word, like they intend Poppy and Wonderments to be—unique.

“Sue and I are passionate about creating a safe space for creativity and community, and we want to support the community in terms of providing opportunities for people,” Weber said.
