Trash for Treats on Earth Day in West St. Paul

Local kids’ clothing resale boutique Eco Chico is cleaning up the community on Earth Day with a Trash for Treats trade program. They’re offering free ice cream from nearby Micho Love in exchange for picking up litter.

Why it matters: “Litter is an eyesore and an environmental hazard and I always hate to see it near my home and business,” said Krystell Theisen Escobar, owner of Eco Chico. “Spending some time picking litter up reminds me how important it is to keep our community clean.”

  • How’s it work: Pick up trash in West St. Paul or the West Side and bring it to Eco Chico. They’ll trade a bag of trash for a coupon for a free single scoop of ice cream at Micho Love. Limit one per child.
  • When: Wednesday, April 22 from 3 to 7 p.m.
  • Where: Eco Chico and Micho Love at Signal Hills Shopping Center at 1201 South Robert Street.

How did it start: In 2024, Theisen Escobar did a team/family cleanup in the Signal Hills neighborhood. Then in 2025 she launched the ice cream event. That first year they filled two extra large bins of trash and gave out 40 coupons for free ice cream.

Pace Automotive: Local, family owned auto repair. Personal, honest service.

More: For more community cleanup, the city is hosting a Sustainability Spring Fling on Saturday, April 25.

“Sadly, there is enough litter in West St. Paul to fill up a truckload,” Theisen Escobar said. “The point is just that we can all do a little part.”
