There’s a new mural in Inver Grove Heights along the Veterans Memorial Greenway. Created by local artist Cadex Herrera, it spans the walls and roof of a bike/pedestrian underpass as part of a series of veteran memorials.
The Mural
The mural is one of eight memorials planned along the Veterans Memorial Greenway. The theme is ‘places we served,’ acknowledging the many places around the globe where veterans have served.
- Where: The mural is in a tunnel under Rich Valley Boulevard. It’s a short walk from the trailhead at Rich Valley Park.
- The artist: Minnesota artist Cadex Herrera created the mural. He’s known for murals at the George Floyd memorial and in downtown St. Paul on Wabasha and Kellogg Streets.
The Trail
The Veterans Memorial Greenway will eventually be a 5-mile trail in Eagan and Inver Grove Heights that connects Lebanon Hills Regional Park to the Mississippi River via the planned Lebanon Hills Greenway. The greenway will feature eight memorial plazas that honor and recognize the sacrifice made by veterans and provide a place for healing.
- Where: The trail will run roughly between Robert Trail South and Highway 52 north of Cliff Road.
- Timeline: Phase 1 between Alameda Path to Rich Valley Park is now complete (opened in late 2024). The mural was just finished and interpretive panels will be installed this week. Construction for phase 2 between Dodd Road to Southern Lakes Park will start in late 2026 with completion by the end of 2027. Work on phase 3 between Rich Valley Athletic Complex to Highway 52 will happen in 2028.
