After 70 years, South St. Paul’s Northview Pool is being reborn. The city demolished the aging facility in September to make way for the new Northview Family Aquatic Center.
- What: The project includes a new pool building with changing rooms, staff space, concessions and mechanical space, a new slightly larger pool with beach entry, lap lanes and a diving well, an aquatic play structure, diving board, water slides, six shade structures, a repaved parking lot with 41 stalls, and improved accessibility. The existing playground, basketball court, softball field and other park amenities in Northview Park will remain.
- Why: The aging facility, first opened in 1956, presented an ongoing maintenance challenge, including leaking 12,000 gallons of water per day in 2023. The city patched that leak, but saw it as a temporary fix.
- Timeline: Demolition of the old pool began in September, with completion of the new aquatic center estimated for May 2028. With construction taking until 2028, there will be no pool season at Northview in 2027.
- Cost: The total estimated project cost is $10.25 million. The city received $4.15 million in state bonding funds and plans to use local sources and issue bonds for the rest. The city’s bonding will happen later this year.

Context: The city conducted an aquatics study in 2025 with a public open house and online survey to gather community input. The results recommended consolidating the pool and splash pad into one facility.
Splash pad: The city plans to keep the splash pad at Lorraine Park open through the 2027 season, but haven’t made decisions about its future beyond that.
