The last West St. Paul City Council meeting of the year will focus on the 2024 budget, options for a municipal cannabis shop, property abatement, and city manager review.

2024 Budget

The biggest item on the agenda is the annual budget, with a public hearing for the property tax levy.

  • Total 2024 budget: $41.6 million
  • Property tax increase: 5.97%

Other Items on the Agenda

  • Cannabis: With the passage of the marijuana legislation, cities have the option of opening a municipal cannabis shop. City staff recently attended a meeting on this option and will share what they learned during the Open Council Work Session (OCWS).
  • Abatement: The city is starting the abatement process on 1370 Allen due to health and safety issues. The owner passed away and the house is in tax forfeiture.
  • City manager review: At the last meeting the City Council had a closed session to review the performance of the city manager. They’ll give a summary of the results.
