A Little Effort Goes a Long Way
West St. Paul City Council Member Pat Armon has spearheaded regular city-wide cleanups. We asked him why it’s a priority:
The last thing any city wants is to be saddled with a reputation of being a dump. I want to do everything I can to see that West St. Paul does not gain such a standing. My hope is that the clean ups get more people to care and realize that a little effort can go a long way in keeping things clean.
I realize that litter clean ups in the spring and fall only allow us to tackle some of the problem for a short period of time. However, if others can see that people want to make a difference and become motivated to help in their own neighborhoods on a consistent basis, we can gain ground. I hope such momentum can slowly build more community spirit where litter is less tolerated.
Eventually I would like the city to begin other strategies to attack litter and stray shopping carts and I plan to do that in the months ahead. The more people who care about where they live, the sooner we can get that to happen.
