The ISD 197 School Board approved a new contract for operating engineers, a health insurance increase, and updates to strategic plan updates. The short agenda made for a brief, 29-minute meeting.

Operating Engineers Union Contract Settled

The school board unanimously approved a new union contract for operating engineers for 2023-2025, which includes about 50 employees.

  • Salaries will go up 3% each year, plus pay increases for certain categories based on longevity and licensure. There’s also an additional stipend for certain positions.
  • The 401(3)b match is increased by $50.
  • There are tweaks to health insurance.
  • Everyone will get a $1,000 one-time bonus.

Other Items on the Agenda

  • Health Insurance Increases: District employees will see health insurance premiums go up 10% for the 2024-2025 fiscal year due to a shrinking reserve, COVID-19 claims, and inflation.
  • Strategic plan updates: The board approved changes and updates to 10 of 55 objectives as part of the district’s strategic implementation plan. Most of the changes are postponing implementation due to a range of factors, from staff turnover to simply having too much to accomplish.
