Chainsaw Rose Carving in West St. Paul Backyard

This weekend chainsaw artist Adam Gale carved a 17-foot silver maple stump into vines and roses in a West St. Paul backyard.

“I want to bring something beautiful into the neighborhood we love,” said homeowner Brent Ristow. Brent and his wife Amanda moved into West St. Paul in 2019 and love the walkable area.

They live on Ottawa Avenue, a few doors down from the Pizza Shop. The sculpture is in their backyard, but at 17-feet high it’s visible over their fence from the sidewalk.

Gale is known for doing unique chainsaw sculptures—like a recent Star Wars carving.

“Anything but bears or eagles,” Gale said. “Nobody is going to ask you about a carved bear with a welcome sign. But if you do something unique, people will talk about that.”

Gale started on Saturday morning and spent the whole weekend on the carving. Next he’ll stain and paint the sculpture before it’s complete.
