Tumble Fresh Coin Laundry

What’s Happening With the Former Perkins?

Thanks to Southview Garden Center for their support.

Perkins closed in 2020 and will be replaced by Tumble Fresh Coin Laundry in 2021.

History

The West St. Paul Perkins Restaurant & Bakery closed in 2020. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2019 and has been closing restaurants. This combined with the drop in business thanks to the pandemic doomed our local Perkins, a long-time community gathering spot.

New Plans

In late 2020, a plan is coming before the city for a self-service laundromat at the former Perkins site at 1365 South Robert Street. Linn Investment Properties is bringing the proposal, which includes demolition of the existing structure and building a new 4,770-square-foot building.

Tumble Fresh is a regional chain of laundromats founded in Minnesota in 2010. They currently have nine locations.

The proposed laundromat will come before the Planning Commission on December 15 for a public hearing, variance requests (minor issues related to the small lot size), and site plan and plat approvals. It will come before City Council on January 11, 2021.

Dec. 16, 2020 Update: This project hit some bumps during the Planning Commission review, including a denied variance request related to the trash enclosure and a site plan approved with conditions that the building be moved adjacent to Robert Street with parking in the rear, as directed in the city’s Comprehensive Plan. The applicant said they’d withdraw their plans, though they’ll need to work with city staff on the next step.

Jan. 14, 2021 Update: The applicant resubmitted new plans that move the building adjacent to Robert Street to comply with the Planning Commissions conditions. They said the new orientation was actually better, and the plans were approved by the City Council on January 11.

  1. Car washers ( bakers square)
    And mega laundry mats
(Perkins) I would prefer another Restaurant in one of those places.

  2. Geez, we need more laundry mats and car washes like we need more fast food. Is this the best our city officials can come up with.
Hy Vee was a good move, but how about some better shopping besides Walmart and Target?
It seems to me we are catering to only low income families, but what about keeping others buying in the city instead of going to Eagan and Woodbury etc.
