Two West St. Paul organizations are looking for people to recognize for giving back to the community. The Optimist Club of West St. Paul is accepting nominations for their annual Optimist of the Year award and WSP Pride is accepting nominations for their annual Community Advocate award.
Optimist of the Year
The Optimist Club wants to recognize people “involved in the betterment of West St. Paul youth.” To nominate someone, send a paragraph describing how that nominee has positively impacted West St. Paul youth along with the contact information of the nominating person to Cheryl Bergstrom. The deadline for nominations is August 1.
The winner will be announced in August and invited to ride in the Explore West St. Paul Days parade.
Last year’s winner was Garlough teacher Kelsey Thornton.
Community Advocate
WSP Pride awarded the first Community Advocate Award in 2021 to acknowledge LGBTQ+ advocacy work done by people in West St. Paul. Connye LaCombe received the inaugural award for her work supporting a ban on gay conversion therapy.
Nominees should have close ties to West St. Paul and have demonstrated a commitment to the LGBTQ+ community. To nominate someone, fill out the online form with the nomination and why they are being nominated. Nominations will close on June 24.
The winner will be recognized at WSP Pride on July 9.
