In possibly one of the shortest school board meetings ever, the ISD 197 School Board reviewed policies on drug/alcohol testing and service animals and approved health and dental insurance recommendations—and adjourned after 18 minutes.
Health and Dental Insurance
The board approved a recommendation to switch to Health Partners as the healthcare administrator. The district is required to obtain bids every two years and the Labor Management Committee, composed of union leadership, district leadership, and a school board representative made the recommendation. Health Partners was the lowest bidder. Note: The healthcare administrator is different than the healthcare provider, and that change will come forward in a future meeting.
Policies
The board reviewed two policies that will move to the consent agenda of future meetings:
- Drug and Alcohol Testing: Initially reviewed in February, this policy came back for a second reading with a few minor changes and explanations responding to board questions.
- Service Animals in the Schools: The district reviewed changes to that primarily streamlined and condensed the policy. The service animal definition includes dogs and miniature horses. The district is aware of one service animal currently in use with a potential second coming next year.
