Today the Oxendale’s grocery store in West St. Paul announced they are closing. They expect to shut down by December 23 or sooner.
- An employee confirmed the closure and said the employees were given the news today. They were not given an option to transfer to other Oxendale’s locations.
- With already depleted shelves, some stock is already being moved to other stores.
Context: Oxendale’s has struggled over the summer during the Smith/Dodd intersection realignment. First pitched in 2021, there have been no updates on redevelopment plans for the aging shopping center.
History: First opened in 2014, Oxendale’s was the fourth grocery store in Doddway Center, preceded by Jim’s Market, R.C. Dick’s, and Applebaum’s.
Dec. 13, 2025 Update: Closed
As of this morning, Saturday, December 13, Oxendale’s is permanently closed. A sign on the door noted the closure, and work is already happening inside to remove stock and tear down displays.

One of the employees got a bit mad if I asked if they were closing about a month ago. It didn’t make sense that the shelves were so bare seeing that the construction didn’t prevent trucks from getting there entirely. That’s a big disappointment.
Ditto for me. Really cruel that management has known this for months and waited this long to tell employees.
The Oxendales on Randolph also has empty shelves…
Since nothing has worked and the economy is in its current form maybe Neighbors Inc. Should move there. The doors would come off the hinges with business.
Maybe Buon Giorno could relocate there. Or a new Mississippi Market? I will miss the convenience of Oxendales.. but not the empty shelves and expired dairy products they offered during the last few months. It was clearly in a death spiral. I do feel for their employees.
That would be nice!
Shame on Oxendales…I have like their stores since my days in Minneapolis. Moving to West St. Paul and realizing they were here was a delight. Then they open in Highland and I had calm my friends that they will love Oxendales especially with the meat market possilities. But somewhere whomever had these grand ideas did not know how to make it become a substantial enterprise. The curse of small businesses that do not have proper project management skills. It is obvious the upper management do not have those skills in the way they closed and dropping employees right before Christmas. They do not understand the race before the end of the year not only hurt the employees but the community. We need small grocery stores. Where you can run in without crowds. Where you learn the employees names and can engage and even watch some grow up in front of your eyes. These small stores unite our community more then you think. I hope that our city hall encourage small grocery stores to replace Oxendales and or push for that redevelopment. The energy they put in big develop should also sustain community enterprise.
The city of West St. Paul and their road construction deserves a share of the blame. The new road was unneeded and is much less safe than the earlier, easier to navigate configuration.
The shelves were empty far before the construction started even. They were not paying their vendors at least s year before the construction. This was about the time they closed the store in Bloomington. I hope a Mississippi Market comes in there.
don’t believe the lies, this is about w st paul forcing business out so they can redevelop and increase tax revenue and apartment density. this mall has been under attack for years.
Finding out that all of the profit from the other locations were being used to keep the Dodd location afloat. My uncles best friend lost his job with no warning. Such a shame.
If anyone is interested in the possibility of getting a Trader Joe’s in the Oxendale location, there is a place to request one on their site. If enough people request a TJ’s, they might consider it. Here’s the link to request a TJ’s. https://www.traderjoes.com/home/contact-us/request-a-store
