ISD 197 announced that interim Principal Libby Huettl will take over as the full-time principal of Garlough Environmental Magnet School. Having served eight years as the principal at Somerset, Huettl stepped in as the interim principal at Garlough after former Garlough Principal Sue Powell announced her retirement this summer.

“Somerset will always be part of my story—it is a community I love, and the relationships I have built there will always matter to me,” said Huettl. “At the same time, I am committed to continuing the great work already underway at Garlough. I am honored to support Garlough’s magnet programming and the students who are thriving within it.”

“We are grateful to the Somerset and Garlough communities for their partnership, especially during a last-minute leadership shift in late summer,” said Assistant Superintendent Peter Mau. “Somerset staff and families showed exceptional grace and flexibility in welcoming interim Principal Mark Quinn, and the Garlough community embraced Principal Huettl as she stepped into a new role.”

What’s next: ISD 197 plans to start the principal search process for Somerset as early as January and hire a new principal by late spring or the end of the school year at the latest. Somerset staff and families will have an opportunity to give input during the selection process.
