Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School launches their fifth annual Raise Craze fundraiser to encourage kindness.
“Kindness breeds kindness,” said Moreland Principal Rob Sahli. “We believe that with every act of kindness shown by one of our students, the community has the opportunity to respond in kind. We have seen that proven true time and time again.”
What: Raise Craze ditches the traditional fundraiser where students sell products and instead encourages students to do acts of kindness and raise support for their efforts. This year’s acts of kindness will include a food packing event, flowers and coloring with senior living residents, a family service night, and more.
- Everyone: “It is important to us to have an inclusive event where all families can participate whether they have the ability to raise money or not,” said Moreland PTA Vice President Lindsay Bjerke. “Everyone can spread kindness, participate in the events, and be a part of the mission!”
- Theme: This year’s fundraiser has a “Bee Kind” theme, building off the school’s annual theme of “Be You,” which focuses on strength in diversity.
- Stronger: “What I have loved about the theme this year is that even as we navigate some very challenging times in our community, and in our state, our students have been reminded that our differences are what makes us so much stronger,” said Sahli.
How to support: You can donate online to the general Moreland fund. Each student will also set up their own support pages to raise donations for their individual efforts.
When: The fundraiser runs February 20 to March 14.
Goal: This year’s goal is 2,600 acts of kindness and $20,000 for improvements to the school library and inventory, free school events, and teacher projects/appreciation.
- “Although we absolutely need to raise money for the needs of our school, our focus is on building community and celebrating kindness this year,” said Bjerke. “We all need an injection of joy!”
Impact: Started in 2022, the Moreland Raise Craze fundraiser supported the school’s giant mural and revitalized their library.
- “Our acts of kindness pack a powerful punch of kindness in a world that desperately needs it,” said Sahli.
- “The smallest act can mean the world to someone,” said Bjerke. “A smile from a stranger can have a big effect on your day. We hope this event inspires kids to take actions big or small and know the ripple effects are enormous.”
See it in action: Here are pictures from last year’s kindness fundraiser, with the theme of “Kindness Rocks.” They included a kindness wall where students could write down their acts of kindness and display them on the wall. “Students can see that list of good deeds grow throughout the three weeks, which we hope to be a powerful reminder of the chain reaction of kindness!” said Bjerke.

We keep the community informed thanks to the generous support of our members.
