Southbound Robert Street will be closed immediately south of Butler from November 2-9.
- Where: A very short section of Robert Street will be closed, basically in front of Walgreens. Southbound Robert will be closed from Butler south to the Walgreens driveway onto Robert Street (which should stay open). Northbound Robert Street will remain open.
- When: The closure should run Monday, November 2 to Monday, November 9.
- Why: It’s for the coming G Line bus rapid transit (BRT), happening now to avoid conflicts with Robert Street work planned for next year in St. Paul.
- What: Workers will be relocating sewer service and pouring the concrete bus pad for the BRT station in front of Walgreens.
Why is this happening now?: Major Robert Street construction north of Annapolis in St. Paul is coming in 2027. Detours will route traffic along Butler, so they’re trying to knock out work that would impact those detours now. It’s possible there could also be a northbound Robert Street closure this year for the northbound BRT stop at Butler, but that schedule hasn’t been decided yet.
Additional work: Most G Line work in St. Paul will happen in 2027 and 2028 with the Robert Street construction. Expect most G Line work in West St. Paul to come in 2028, with the exception of these pieces that impact the St. Paul Robert Street construction. The BRT line is expected to open in late 2028.
