Crew Carwash

What’s Happening With the Former Bakers Square?

Answering questions relies on your support.

Bakers Square closed in 2020 and will be replaced with a proposed Crew Carwash in 2021.

History

The West St. Paul Baker’s Square at 1949 S. Robert Street closed in 2020. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and has been closing restaurants nationwide. Bankruptcy coupled with the pandemic restrictions seems to have condemned the West St. Paul location, much like Perkins.

New Plans

In the fall of 2020, Crew Carwash had a purchase agreement for the former Bakers Square location. They plan to demolish the existing 4,200-square-foot building and construct a 5,764-foot car wash building. Construction would presumably happen in 2021.

Based in Indiana, Crew Carwash has 33 locations and is looking to expand.

A car wash requires a conditional use permit (CUP), and that request will come before the Planning Commission on December 15. It will come before the City Council on January 11, 2021.

  1. Another car wash?? Really, that makes atleat 4 or 5 not counting those at the gas stations, where is the need for this?? How about a Red Lobster or Olive Garden?

  2. Agreed… we need that like we need another bank or Starbucks. How about a few good sit down restaurants for a change.
