Incumbent two-term Dakota County sheriff announces he’s not running for reelection in 2022. First elected in 2014, Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie made the announcement this afternoon.
“The work has been meaningful and being sheriff has been a tremendous honor,” the statement said. “I have had a great run, but as they say, all good things come to an end.”
Leslie previously told us he would be running, though he admitted the last two years have been a “real challenge.”
Leslie won in 2014 with nearly 75% of the vote and ran unopposed in 2018.
In his statement, Leslie urged Chief Deputy Joe Leko, a 24-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, to run for sheriff. March 8, 2022 Update: Leko is running.
