Member Drive: Support Local News - Postcards

Member Drive: Postcards!

We’re nearing the end of our member drive trying to expand coverage (we hit our goal of covering school board!) and build support for neighborhood news.

Why support our member drive? Help create locally commissioned postcards and get one for yourself.

What postcards? We commission local artists to create postcards featuring West St. Paul and then send them to our members as a thank you. Since 2019, we’ve created 11 postcards.

Why postcards? Throughout the member drive we’ve shared various reasons to support our work, including adding school board coverage, how we inform the community, our coverage of City Council meetings, elections, and history, and our contributors. But postcards are personal. Here are a few reasons why we do them:

  • Celebrate West St. Paul: We love our community and want to show it off. There’s something fun about seeing your town on a postcard. You envision it as a destination. An old city motto said “We’re close to it all,” which implied the attractions are nearby but not actually here. We disagree. There’s a lot to love in West St. Paul.
  • Support local artists: We also love highlighting and supporting local artists. There’s a lot of talent in this small town and we’re excited to show it off. Artists bring so much to a community, and anything we can do to put a spotlight on their work is a win for everyone.
  • Gratitude: Our parents taught us to say thank you. So we use the postcards to send a tangible thank you to our members. That tangible part is important. Being an online-only news source, we wanted a way to show up in the real world. Plus, who doesn’t like getting happy mail?
